When this sweet family of five booked their first ever professional photo session, they weren’t sure what to expect. Choosing a mini session gave them the perfect way to dip their toes in without the pressure of a full shoot. And I’m so glad they went for it.
We met in the rolling golden hills of California just before sunset. The light was warm, the breeze was soft, and the energy felt easy right from the beginning. I knew my job was to help them feel comfortable and forget that the camera was even there.
So we played. We moved. We laughed. I used a few of my favorite prompts to help them focus on each other instead of posing. That simple shift always makes the difference, especially when working with families who are new to this.
The kids jumped in right away, full of personality and curiosity. Even dad, who started off a little unsure, ended up giving me some of the best smiles of the session. Watching them relax and enjoy themselves reminded me why I love doing this so much.
The result was a collection of images that felt honest and full of life. And the best part? They loved their gallery so much they decided to purchase the entire thing.
Mini sessions are proof that you don’t need hours of shooting to create something meaningful. Sometimes all it takes is twenty minutes, a little direction, and some golden California light.
Through the highs and lows, the quiet and the chaos, the beginnings and the endings, every moment is worth remembering. Life moves forward, but your photographs will always hold it still. Let me capture it for you.
